I like it
I've been using this for a few months. It doesn't hassle you much, runs without a huge system performance hit, and in general it has been a really good purchase.
Ok product but would not buy again
BitDefender scored reasonably well in antivirus tests that I have seen online, and the price was right for a 2 year 3 PC license, so I picked this up for my wife and I. While I (assume) my protection has been sufficient, the application itself suffers from a few problems. The interface is not intuitive and it takes some digging to find what you are looking for, making something as simple as scheduling checks awkward. There is a basic and advanced interface, and neither work well.
The update process is questionable. On Vista I have turned on my monitor in the morning a few times to see that the BitDefender service has stopped and I have to reboot to get it running again. While I can't prove that it has been locking up our XP laptop on resume, we have had a few times since it was installed where we blue screened on resume and had to delete the resume information to start up.
Of interesting note, I was able to download the 2009 version from the website and use my 2008 CD-key to register it.
While I think it's a capable product and does the job sufficiently, when our subscription is up I will be looking elsewhere.
Basic Computer User
The buying and shipping process went very smoothly. I received the package sooner than expected. Installation was simple, but one of the modules would not configure, so I just left it alone. I am using a slow 2005 Toshiba laptop, so I just assume it is more a problem with my system than the software.
Horrible Customer Support
Product seems to work fine, but when I tried to renew online, I could not change/upgrade my subscription to take advantage of having BitDefender on multiple PCs in my home. After failing online, I made the mistake of contacting their support. After minutes of them not being able to understand me, I finally gave up. I then sent an e-mail explaining what I wanted. No response.
great at antivirus, where is tech support?
Bitdefender is the best antivirus software on the market according to consumer reports and almost every site that reviews antivirus and security programs. The only HUGE problem with bitdefender is their
almost non-existent tech support - email them, try to phone them, create a report on their site - nothing moves these people or person to ever respond. If they would or could wake up their tech support,
this would be an almost perfect anti-viral solution. Here's hoping they flesh out their tech staff.
p.s. - they did answer my queries about 4 weeks after I sent them the emails.
